Impact

This KAKENHI-funded research represents a significant validation of VRPlaced's approach to AI-powered interview training. The collaboration with three prestigious universities and the application of rigorous scientific methodology will generate insights that improve the platform for all users. Early findings suggest that immersive training combined with AI feedback can measurably reduce interview anxiety and improve performance outcomes.

Overview

This research collaboration brings together leading institutions from India and Japan to study how AI-powered interview simulations can help people perform better in high-pressure situations. VRPlaced serves as the interview simulation platform, offering desktop, VR, and mixed reality modes with AI-driven conversational avatars. The research uses EEG (brainwave) analysis to measure cognitive and emotional responses, comparing results across cultural backgrounds.

The Research Question

Job interviews are high-pressure situations where anxiety can significantly impact performance. Traditional interview preparation methods lack the immersion and real-time feedback needed to build genuine confidence. The research aims to answer:

  • How do different immersive environments (desktop vs VR vs MR) affect interview performance?
  • Can AI-driven simulations effectively reduce interview anxiety?
  • How do cultural backgrounds (Indian vs Japanese) influence responses to immersive training?
  • What EEG patterns correlate with improved confidence and performance?
  • How can personalized, culturally-sensitive training tools be developed?
  • What is the optimal combination of immersion level and AI interaction for skill building?

Research Objectives

  • Compare effectiveness of desktop, VR, and MR interview simulations using quantitative metrics
  • Measure cognitive and emotional responses through EEG pattern analysis
  • Conduct cross-cultural studies between Indian and Japanese participants
  • Develop personalized training recommendations based on individual responses
  • Create guidelines for culturally-sensitive AI interview simulation design
  • Publish findings to advance the field of immersive training technology

VRPlaced's Role

VRPlaced provides the core simulation platform with:

  • Multi-Modal Delivery - Same interview scenarios accessible via desktop browser, VR headset (Meta Quest), and mixed reality, enabling controlled comparison studies.
  • AI Conversational Avatars - Realistic 3D interviewers that adapt questions based on candidate responses, creating authentic interview pressure.
  • Real-Time Evaluation - AI assessment of communication skills, technical knowledge, and behavioral cues during simulations.
  • 2,000+ Role Coverage - Interview scenarios spanning technical, behavioral, and industry-specific formats for comprehensive testing.
  • Adaptive Difficulty - Questions and interviewer behavior adjust based on participant performance, maintaining optimal challenge levels.
  • Session Recording & Analytics - Detailed logs of responses, timings, and AI evaluations for research analysis.
